TULSA, Okla. — A 21-year-old man was shot and killed by a Tulsa police officer in west Tulsa on May 15.
The shooting happened near 100 Gilcrease Museum Road around 3:45 p.m.
Tulsa police said they got a call about a man firing shots in the area of a veterinary clinic. The caller said the man, now identified as Elmer Vargas, fired shots at cars and possibly people. It is not clear at this time if the man targeted people.
Police said an officer responded from the nearby maintenance facility and encountered Vargas in his SUV near the area. Police said he fired shots as the officer approached and the officer fired back.
Vargas died in his SUV.
