TULSA, Okla — MetroLink Tulsa confirmed that they have rolled out a new initiative known as "Free Fare Fridays".

The new initiative eliminates all fare prices for both buses and trains for customers every Friday through September 18 on all routes:

  • August 21
  • August 28
  • September 4
  • September 11
  • September 18

2 News spoke with Zariaah Burkett who was waiting at the stop on 31st and Sheridan.

She said she had no idea about Free Fare Fridays, but is extremely grateful for the new program.

FLORES: “Tell me, do you think that’s a good idea?”

BURKETT: “Yes. I do, because there’s people that actually have to get to work and by Friday, they may not have any of their paycheck left, so to help them get to work and help them get their paycheck, and to continue working, is a blessing.”

Burkett said with rising costs, everything seems to be getting a bit tougher for people, so any little thing helps.

“I remember when the bus fare actually changed, and some people didn't add that into their monthly total or to what they were going to spend, and wouldn't have enough to actually get to work," she said. “Sometimes the distance that you're having to walk is not just a mile. It could be five miles. So yes, it makes a difference.”
