TULSA -- Monday, Aug. 6, marks one year since an EF 2 tornado ripped through midtown Tulsa and caused damage at area businesses.
The tornado caused damage to 200 local businesses and sent 26 people to the hospital. A TGI Friday's and Whataburger were among the restaurants that suffered the most severe damage.
Police said the tornado traveled along East 41st Street from Yale to Mingo.
The powerful winds caused roofs and walls to collapse at several businesses in the area. They also brought down signs and utility poles, causing power outages for thousands of people.
Several homes were also damaged in the neighborhoods close to the businesses.
