BARNSDALL — A community is mourning at the news of legendary Barnsdall High School coach Joe Gilbert's death on Monday morning.
Gilbert coached at Barnsdall for 66 years. He won 3,912 games, coaching six different sports. He won 922 games in Girls Basketball, 649 in Boys Basketball, 1,140 in Fastpitch Softball, 395 in Slow Pitch Softball, 801 in Baseball and five in Football.
Gilbert was elected into the National High School Sports Hall of Fame in Indiana in 2019.
Gilbert died at the age of 87.
Funeral services are currently pending.
