CHEROKEE COUNTY, Okla. -- A woman was arrested in Cherokee County on Tuesday after officials said she shot and killed her husband during a fight.

The woman, Keia Beaver, said that her husband had strangled and bitten her. Beaver said that when she was trying to leave their home,he tried to stop her, at which point she fired a rifle and hit him.

Beaver told the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office that she meant to scare her husband, not kill him. She took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies said Beaver had injuries consistent with her story.

She was arrested on a count of first-degree manslaughter.
