Police said Stephen Cook, 54, died at a local hospital after he was found unresponsive on a sidewalk outside Ryan's Convenience Store.
After reviewing video, police said, Cook was speaking to someone in an SUV when he was dragged by the vehicle when it backed out of a parking spot.
Police said Cook stood up after the SUV left, walked to the sidewalk and collapsed.
Cook was carrying some sort of satchel, which caused Cook to be dragged, police said.
The SUV did not appear to run over Cook, but officials said the investigation is still ongoing.
