TULSA, Okla. — Spirit AeroSystems is closing the McAlester facility.
The company said the closure is due to the downturn in commercial aviation due to the global pandemic. The grounding of the 737 Max planes also played a factor.

Officials said in a matter of months the demand fell from historic highs to much lower numbers and the airline industry is not returning as fast as expected. Spirit plans to move the work currently performed in McAlester to the Tulsa and Wichita facilities, as well as with some regional suppliers.
The company said they are committed to working with their McAlester employees and the community through the transition.
