Another Oklahoman could become a member of President Trump's administration.

Trump nominated First District Congressman Jim Bridenstine to head up NASA.

The three-term Congressman defended Trump as the Republican nominee heading into the 20-16 convention.

One of Bridenstine's former staff members says he’s qualified to lead the space agency.

“It doesn't surprise me at all that he would be considered for this appointment. His background is stellar. For with his military background and his involvement with the Tulsa air and space museum. He's a natural candidate for it," said Sandy Minardi, a former Bridenstine staff member.

Bridenstine is a former Navy pilot and flies with Oklahoma’s 137th Air Refueling Wing.

The congressman faced push back from Florida's two senators right after the nomination was made official Friday.

He will soon face senate confirmation hearings back in Washington.

At home in Oklahoma a new race kicks off for his house seat.
