The son of former UFC Fighter, Mikey Burnett, saved his dad's life during a life-threatening armed robbery at a 10GYM in East Tulsa, Monday night.
Mikey and his son Freddie were walking to their car after working out at a 10GYM when two teenagers robbed them at gun point. Mikey was shot four times in the stomach, but was saved when his son Freddie shot back.
"I have to give it to Freddie," said his uncle Scott Burnett when recounting the details of the robbery. "He jumped on the guy's back and started choking him. He was shot in the leg for it, but he probably saved his dad's life."
The police have the two teenage suspects in custody. While the police have identified the pair, we are not releasing their mug shots or names unless they are charged as adults. Their identities aside, Scott says the arrest is what matters.
"It gives me peace knowing these people are off the streets like that," Scott said. "At the same time, I think, 'They're just kids man. If they would have just talked to Mikey, you know.' Why waste your life coming out of a gym?"
For Scott and the rest of the Burnett family they say the ordeal has been "a whirlwind." While Scott says he wants to be mad, he just tries to remember that the teens have families too.
Freddie is scheduled to be released from the hospital Wednesday. Mikey is still in the ICU and underwent a surgery early Tuesday to repair the damage done to his abdomen, according to Scott.
The family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover the costs of medical bills.
