TULSA, Okla. — Residents who filed their 2018 taxes at EMA Tax Services in Tulsa are reacting after their tax forms with personal information, such as social security number, were found in a dumpster near the tax preparation office by Garnett and 21st Street.

"I hope this doesn't cause any consequences that other people didn't get ahold of our documents and used them against us," said Onelia Tzompanakis.

She said it was the first time she filed her taxes at EMA Tax Services after a friend recommended the place. She said she trusted the tax preparer to handle her personal information with care.

"It's very delicate. This is a serious situation. I think that every place where you file your taxes should be careful when dealing with important documents," said Tzompanakis.

She's one of dozens of people whose tax forms were exposed in the dumpster.

It's unclear if any of the documents got into the wrong hands before a roofing contractor found them earlier this week. On Friday, there were several tax forms still in garbage bags.

The owner of the tax preparation site said they would take care of the situation and purchase shredders soon. They were not readily available because their offices closed for Good Friday.
