According to Cushing city officials, Cushing Lake will be closed until further notice due to a situation involving the Cushing Lake dam.

There was a breach of the concrete structure beneath the surface, which has allowed water to pass.

Officials say the danger is going down at Cushing Lake.

A command center has been established to monitor and control this incident.

The following agencies are part of the command center: Cushing Police, Cushing Fire Department, Cushing Emergency Management, Payne County Sheriff's Department, Payne County District No. 1, Professional Engineering Consultants of Tulsa, Gose and Associates engineering firm of Stillwater, and the Oklahoma Water Resources Board Dam Safety Unit.

City officials have also spoken to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Tulsa Division and the Oklahoma Office of Emergency Management in Oklahoma City to make them aware of this event.

Cushing police are currently notifying residents that have property and livestock immediately downstream of the event so appropriate action could be taken by the property owners.

At this time Cushing Lake is still closed to the public.
