The 2017 Hurricane season comes to an end on Thursday, November 30, and this year's season proves to be one of the busiest on record. 

This year there were 17 named storms, 10 hurricanes, and 6 major hurricanes. A "major" hurricane is described as a category 3 or higher storm. According to Dr. Phil Kloztbach, the hurricane expert from Colorado State University, 2017 will go down as one of the top 10 most active Atlantic seasons on record. 

A few stats that support the fact that this was one of the more active seasons:

-On average, there are usually only 12 named storms per season. We had 17 named storms this year.

-This year we had 6 major hurricanes. Typically there are only 2 major hurricanes per season.

-There was an estimated 262 deaths this season. 

-The cost  was near $203 billion, making it the costliest season to date.
