A rainy storm system will move through Oklahoma this weekend. This system could dump some much needed heavy rain on extreme drought stricken areas of Oklahoma. This would include parts of central and western Oklahoma.
It has been 6 and a half months since some areas of western Oklahoma have received over a quarter inch of rain.. This has contributed to an extreme drought situation in that area that has lead to massive fires.
This weekend's rain should help the fire danger situation, however, western Oklahoma still needs much more rain to put an end to the drought.
Parts of the state, including here in Green Country, could receive over 2 inches of rain by the end of the weekend. Fortunately, the severe weather chances with this weekend's system appear low, so we're mainly just looking at a heavy rain event.
