Meteorologists have a lot of tools at their disposal, and one of those is the doppler radar.

Since its use in weather, meteorologists have been able to see storms moving across terrain in near real time, improving short-term forecasts and saving lives during severe weather situations.

Data from these radars goes into nearly every weather app like Storm Shield and RadarCast.

But like most things in life, radars aren't perfect, and it sometimes takes a trained meteorological eye to discern what type of precipitation is — or sometimes isn't — falling to the ground.

Watch the video above for a full list of things radar isn't able to see.
