Olympic gold medalist Madeline Manning Mims calls Tulsa home; mentoring athletes in Rio

Posted

Tulsa is home to some incredibly talented athletes.

From football to rodeo to basketball to rugby to baseball to wrestling. We have our fair share. You may even see an Olympic gold medal-winning track athlete roaming around on one of our many hot summer days.

Madeline Manning Mims is one of those talented athletes that calls Tulsa home.

You may remember her performance in the 1968 Games. She was on a mission to win the gold in Mexico City. She did just that, and by a huge margin.

Since then, the Olympic Games has been a part of her fabric with more years of competition, and later as team chaplain to current athletes. Madeline is currently in Rio to be with USA athletes, a mission she takes very seriously.

She's seen it all. The glory of winning. The tragedy of Munich.

The agony that athletes face after training for so long only to fail in pursuit of their ultimate goal. And, the excitement that goes with fulfilling a life-long dream. It's up to Madeline to balance the highs and the lows.

And we almost forgot. Her voice while singing the National Anthem is as beautiful as her stride in winning a gold medal.

An ambassador of the highest order - Madeline Manning Mims.
