This week, the Department of Special Collections at The University of Tulsa has acquired the first known photo ever taken of a tornado.
According to the university, the photo was taken by Thomas Croft, a professional photographer who spent his career in Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma.
The photo was taken on May 12th 1896 in Oklahoma City. The tornado seen in the photo was later declared an F2.
