The two founders of Ben & Jerry's ice cream were arrested Monday at a protest at the U.S. Capitol.

Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield were just two of hundreds of people arrested at a rally organized by Democracy Awakening to protest the large amounts of money spent by corporations during elections.

A statement from the U.S. Capitol Police said the protesters were charged with unlawful demonstration activities on the scene and then released.

The company later confirmed the arrests on its website. "It all comes down to a simple idea that we believe in whole-heartedly: if you care about something, you have to be willing to risk it all ... for the greater good."

Of course, the Ben & Jerry's company and its co-founders have been long known to speak their minds about many social issues, including climate change, GMO labeling and gay rights.
