WAGONER COUNTY-- A Wagoner County deputy is being called a hero after saving an Owasso's man life after finding him lying in his car barely breathing and covered in blood.
Sergeant Cody Standifird said he just happened to be at the right place at the right time.
While patrolling the Coal Creek area Sunday morning, Sgt. StandifIrd said he noticed something unusual.
“I came to this location and observed a vehicle right over here saw a mans foot, or someone’s foot hanging out of the vehicle, decided to make contact with him and found him barely breathing and bloody,” said Standifird.
Sgt. Standifird said he immediately called for help and began CPR on the man named Robert Potter.
“While we were waiting on EMS to get here he stopped breathing and I pulled him out of the vehicle, set him on the ground, did chest compressions and he came back briefly, stopped breathing again did more chest compressions, started breathing again,” said Sgt. Standifird.
It wasn’t long before his fellow deputy, Kyle Johnson, showed up to help.
“We were kind of able to determine after looking at him for a few minutes and trying to keep him conscious and talking to us that there was no gunshot wound and there was blood coming from somewhere else. Then we moved on to the possibility that he may have been beaten,” said Deputy Johnson.
Thanks to Sgt. Standifird’s vigilance and training, Potter is in the hospital and is in good condition. Standifird said it’s rewarding knowing he’ll live to see another day.
“Makes me happy. I’m glad that I could be here for it,” said Sgt. Standifird.
Sgt. Standifrd said he has not seen Potter since saving his life, but hopes to meet him soon.
