Entrepreneur, David Smith, is preparing to launch his first application connecting singles at local happy hours all across the city.
Five O'Clock Stop is a dating app that informs users of male to female ratios at local bars during happy hour and provides elements to help “break the ice” to make meeting people a bit easier.
Smith, who began working on the app in 2014, says many changes were implemented over the course of development and now that the product is finally finished waiting for the launch has been the hardest part of the process.
“Leading up to this, staying up late at night and programming every night I thought that was difficult. This last week we've been kind of sitting around and twiddling our thumbs waiting for it to happen and this has been the most difficult for me,” Smith said.
Although Smith began working on the app in his spare time, new ideas and programming corrections were facilitated at 36 Degrees North, an entrepreneur incubator in downtown Tulsa that houses many other local businesses.
FOCS is one of the many new start-up companies attempting to create a buzz in the growing landscape of the Tulsa small business community.
Financial website, WalletHub, conducted a study and found Tulsa to be the second best city in the U.S. to start a business behind Shreveport, LA.
FOCS partner and business consultant, David Diaz, moved to Tulsa nearly a year ago and says he was surprised of the opportunities the city had for entrepreneurs.
“When I got here I just realized what an absolute gem it is for entrepreneurship. The cost of living is cheap. The resources are available. It's growing, it's up-and-coming and it's got an amazing energy for development design of new tech apps as well as manufacturing,” Diaz said.
FOCS will host their launch party on May 6-7 at the Hunt Club, Inner Circle Vodka Bar, and the Yeti beginning at 8:00 p.m.
