TULSA - A Tulsa family is heartbroken over the theft of their family dog early Thursday morning. The dog was in the back seat of a car stolen from under the owner's eyes.

An east Tulsa man told 2 Works for You he had just purchased a 2013 Hyundai Elantra Thursday evening.

He stopped at the QuikTrip at 31st and U.S. Highway 169 to put air in his tire at about 1 a.m. He said a black male in his 20s jumped into the front seat of the car and drove away as he was airing up the tire.

The man, who does not want to make his name public for security reasons, said his father's nine-year-old dog, Baxter, was in the back seat and has not been seen since.

The car is a dark blue, 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Baxter is a 25 pound Shih-Tzu and King Charles Spaniel mix. The family is offering a reward for Baxter's safe return.

If you've seen Baxter, call (918) 237-8642.
