SAPULPA, Okla - A family is coping with the unthinkable after their son died in a crash Sunday morning.
Monday morning was different in the Medina home.
Nicci Medina walking passed her son's room instead of waking him up for school.
"I didn't get to do that this morning, he's not in there," she said.
A single strand of police tape lays beyond skid marks.
The place where her and her family's lives changed forever.
"We'd actually drove by the accident before and didn't know it was him," said JT's friend Jonathan Greenlee.
He and other friends saw the millions of pieces JT's car turned into.
Police found he was driving eastbound on Highway 17 at a high rate of speed, not wearing his seatbelt, when he spun across five lanes of traffic hitting another car.
"I didn't believe it. I didn't think it was true. I didn't want to believe it," Greenlee said.
Medina was on his way to church.
"He never showed up. He never answered the texts or calls," said his father John Medina.
Minutes after the family got home the doorbell rang.
But their boy's smiling face wasn't on the other side of the door.
"As soon as the doorbell rang we knew."
Their son, their light, their source of laughter was gone.
But God had already given his father the message of comfort he needed.
"Our sermon was about the Providence of God; And we know everybody has their day numbered."
He posted to Facebook not to ask for anything, but to encourage anyone who doesn't know God as their savior to call him so he can help them.
"Sometimes a tragedy brings despair, sometimes it brings hope, it brings people closer together."
His bible sitting among JT's pictures a reminder.
"I want them to know that God has everything in control."
Reminding his brothers and sisters how much they loved him.
"He was more than a brother to me, he was like a mentor," said his little brother Jesse Medina.
And while this may not have been what they planned for JT's life.
"I know there's a day when the Lord will wipe every tear from our eyes..."
It's exactly what God planned.
"That'll be a good day."
The Medina family wants all of JT's friends and even strangers to know their door is always open at this painful time.
