As tax season approaches, officials warn the public of scammers who prey on bank accounts.
Hackers are targeting Turbo Tax customers specifically. One of the latest scams is through emails. Other attacks, through phone, falsely inform that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against you.
"It used to be that the scammers were like 12-year-old kids in a basement, trying to pull over on somebody," says Kelly Phillips Erb with Forbes Media. "Now it's actually organized crime."
There are some simple things you can do to protect yourself. Do not click on the link in the email. You could be installing malware on your computer. If the person calling you leaves a voicemail, do not call back for any reason. If something seems suspicious, it probably is.
