OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has denied a stay of execution for Richard Glossip.
Tuesday an appeals court narrowly denied Glossip's request for a new hearing.
Glossip was originally scheduled to be executed Sept. 16 but an appeals court granted a two-week stay after Glossip's attorneys requested a stay, saying they needed more time to explore new evidence. Despite the new evidence they claim to have, appeals judges say that evidence merely expands on theories that were already raised in his original appeals.
Glossip was twice convicted of ordering the killing of Barry Van Treese, who owned the Oklahoma City motel where Glossip worked. His co-worker, Justin Sneed, was convicted of fatally beating Van Treese and was a key prosecution witness in Glossip's trials.
