OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Many workers at the Oklahoma Capitol have evacuated the building after a fire alarm sounded.
State officials said Monday afternoon's alarm was a false alert apparently triggered by some equipment issues.
Alarms began sounding shortly after 4 p.m. throughout the building. Dozens of state workers grabbed their belongings and headed for the stairwells as the alarm blared on for more than 10 minutes.
Officials later said there was no fire or cause for alarm. John Estus, director of public affairs for the Office of Management and Enterprise Services, said in an email the alarm was caused by an equipment issue.
A similar false alarm in January 2014 was likely set off by dust and smoke kicked up by workers involved in an ongoing renovation project in parts of the building.
