OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma City police say an officer shot and killed a burglary suspect following a fight over the officer's rifle.
Capt. Paco Balderrama says 21-year-old Rodney Turner was shot about 8:20 p.m. Monday by Officer Shawn Callaway as he investigated a reported burglary that was determined to be a home invasion.
Balderrama says Callaway was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. Callaway has been on the police force for four years.
Balderrama says the shooting occurred when Turner tried to take Callaway's rifle at a northwest Oklahoma City apartment complex. Callaway managed to draw his sidearm and fired at Turner, who fled and was later found dead at an apartment about two blocks away.
Police say a weapon belonging to Turner was found at the scene of the shooting.
