ARDMORE, Okla. (AP) -- An Oklahoma agency is investigating the death of an inmate at the Carter County jail in Ardmore.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said Wednesday that the inmate was found unresponsive in his cell about 2 a.m. Thursday and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The inmate's name was not immediately released. The agency said the inmate was alone in the cell.

The OSBI said jail officials asked the agency to investigate the death.

The body was sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
