OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- President Barack Obama has commuted the life sentences of two drug offenders who were convicted in federal court in Oklahoma City.
The White House announced in a press release Friday that the president granted commutations to 42 federal inmates, all of whom were convicted of various drug charges.
Among those who received commutations were Teresa Mechel Griffin of Orlando, Florida, who was convicted of various cocaine charges in federal district court in Oklahoma City and sentenced to life in prison in 1994. Griffin's sentence now will expire on Oct. 1.
Gary Allen Lott of Oklahoma City also had his life sentence commuted. Lott was convicted of multiple methamphetamine-related drug counts and sentenced in 2000.
Telephone messages left Friday with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Oklahoma City weren't immediately returned.
