National Register of Historic Places adds 8 Oklahoma sites

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The National Register of Historic Places is adding eight locations in Oklahoma to its list of historically significant properties.

The Oklahoma Historical Society announced the additions Thursday.

The new listings are: the Central Fire Station in Lawton, Klingensmith Park Amphitheater in Bristow, the Lincoln Park Bathhouse at the Oklahoma City Zoo, the Mutual Savings and Loan Association Building in Oklahoma City, Pruett House in Stillwater, the Downtown Claremore Historic District, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma Building in Tulsa and the Downtown Tulsa YMCA.

Listing in the National Register is an honorific designation that provides recognition, limited protection and, in some cases, financial incentives. The state Historical Society identifies evaluates and nominates properties for the designation.
