OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Democrat Cyndi Munson has been elected to a state House seat representing northwest Oklahoma City that came open after the death of Republican Sen. David Dank.
According to complete but unofficial results, Munson captured more than 53 percent of the vote to defeat Republican Chip Carter in Tuesday's special election. Munson is a native of Lawton who has worked as a community outreach manager with the Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma.
She will serve the remaining three years of Dank's term. He died in April at the age of 76.
Munson's win is a rare pickup for Democrats, who will now hold 30 seats in the 101-member House.
