Some fans have been flocking to Jenks vs. Union Backyard Bowl for decades

TULSA - The Jenks and Union high school football rivalry dates back to 1949. The two teams have squared off nearly every year since 1976.

One fan who has been attending those games since the late 1970's is Jenks fan Scott Van Dyke.

He is the first cousin of Jerry and Dick Van Dyke.

His daughter graduated in 1979, but Van Dyke still attends all of the Jenks football games. He even boards the team bus and travels with the Trojans to all of the away games.

Van Dyke says it's hard not describe to his out-of-state family members what it's lie to attend the Backyard Bowl.

"I have to try to describe what I'm seeing here. He said the game starts at what time, I said 7 p.m. but I'll be there about 5:30. He said I can't believe that-- I said the place won't be jam-packed but it will be pretty full," Van Dyke said.

Van Dyke says he's a Trojan fan for life and plans attending games as long as he can.

This year, Jenks beat Union 35 to 28 to take home the 2016 title of the Backyard Bowl.
