A pit bull is dead after thwarting a domestic knife attack and saving a family in south Florida.

The six-year-old dog, Lucy, came to the rescue after Walter Williams, the 48-year-old ex-boyfriend of Lisa Potts, came at her with a knife during an argument.

Potts began screaming for help when Lucy ran inside of the apartment where she was being attacked and jumped onto Williams. As the scuffle began to intensify, Williams stabbed Lucy.

“Lucy lunged at him and he caught her right in the neck. She still was fighting him, and that's when all three of my sons jumped on Walter and held him down to the ground,” Potts said.

Williams punctured the arm of one of her sons, but Potts said Lucy prevented Williams from causing further damage.
“If it wasn't her, man, I tell you. He could have killed one of us,” Potts said.

Lucy died hours after suffering the stab wound in the neck. Walter Williams has been charged with battery and may face prison time.
