TULSA - The Sand Springs School District starts a new year with new security measures in every single school.

The district installed a lobby guard system, more cameras and made sure there's controlled access into each of its schools.

Everyone will have to go through an office before entering any school building.

Assistant Superintendent Rob Miller said the measures are an upgrade from the previous system.

“There’s no one hundred percent full-proof method but I think the more layers of security we can build into our safety plans, the better off we are," Miller said.

A Northwoods Fine Arts Academy teacher said it puts her at ease.

“It gives us the confidence that we’re making the right decisions because we’ll do whatever it takes to make the parents feel safe and to protect our kids," said Special Education Teacher Amy McAllister.
