ENID, Okla. (AP) - Police say a vehicle has crashed into an Enid museum and caused extensive damage to the building and irreplaceable artifacts inside.
KOCO-TV reports that a driver lost control of his vehicle early Saturday morning, rolled several times and crashed into the side of the Southern Heights Heritage Center and Museum. Police say the man fled from the scene, but later turned himself in and was issued citations.
The museum features artifacts that belonged to notable African-American and Native American people in Oklahoma history. It also includes items from the Trail of Tears.
Barbara Mitchell Finley with the center says the museum is working with its insurance company and that the Oklahoma Museum Association will make repairs to the building and salvage what it can.
