A trip in an ambulance could cost hundreds of dollars out of your pocket, even if you have insurance. But if you live within Owasso Fire Department's EMS response area, there's a program in place that could help you save that money.

It's called the Ambulance Subscription. At most it would cost someone under 65 years old $7 per month, or $84 per year. It ensures if an Owasso resident living outside the City of Owasso limits rides in an ambulance, they won't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses.

Chief David Hurst says the program has existed for 30 years, but when he asks around he's found nobody knows about the program. The City of Owasso reports there are only 285 subscribers to the program, with a slight growth over the past few years.

If you live inside the City of Owasso limits and pay your water bill, your ambulance subscription is lumped into that total. But if not, you could be eligible for the program. Visit the site's page for more info on your eligibility.
