SKIATOOK—Troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol recovered 30 year-old Nicolas Birckel’s body in Skiatook Lake on Saturday afternoon.

They said Birckel went missing on Friday afternoon in the lake southeast of Osage park in the Crystal Bay area.

Authorities said  Birckel was on a boat with a group of friends when he jumped off the boat to go swimming in the water.

They said Birckel went under, then resurfaced saying he couldn’t swim. Officials said he went under a second time and never came back up.

Troopers used side scan sonar to search for Birckel’s body. Troopers recovered his body in 25 feet of water using drag bar efforts. OHP officials believe Birckel wasn’t wearing a life jacket.
