At least one person was killed and more than a dozen were injured when a large crane collapsed in Manhattan's busy Financial District Friday morning, a senior city official tells NBC 4 New York.
NBC New York says that the collapse was reported near Worth and Church streets shortly before 8:30 a.m., fire officials said.
Images from the scene show the crane crashed on a narrow lower Manhattan street, resting atop several smashed cars that were apparently parked. The crane also hit a few buildings as it came down, the city official said.
More than 100 firefighters have responded to the scene, along with dozens of EMS workers and police.
The crane was badged with the logo for Bay Crane. That company owned a crane that collapsed 30 floors in midtown in 2015.
It's not clear what caused the collapse, but Storm Team 4 says it is unlikely that weather conditions could have caused the heavy construction crane to collapse.
