OKLAHOMA CITY — The White House Coronavirus Task Force reports that Oklahoma has the fifth highest rate of newly reported coronavirus cases and is again recommending a statewide mandate require masks.

The report released Wednesday by the Oklahoma State Department of Health says the state had 142 new virus cases per 100,000 residents compared to a national average of 72 per 100,000.

The number of new cases declined from 146 per 100,000 people in the report a week ago.

The health department reported 970 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 12 more deaths from the disease, raising the state's totals since the pandemic began to 72,284 confirmed cases and 924 deaths.
