According to a new report released from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Friday, the U.S. added 248,000 jobs in September.

This puts the country's unemployment rate at a six-year low of 5.9 percent. This is a continued decline from the Great Recession's peak of 10 percent.

The numbers came in better than expected, according to Bloomberg. Estimates were coming in at 215,000 jobs.

The pace of job creation in September signifies a return to the above- 200,000 level, a mark that had been surpassed each month since midwinter until the August lull, according to The New York Times.

In August, 180,000 jobs were added.

This growth indicates a steady recovery post-recession, though the numbers aren't climbing as high or as fast as initially expected.
