The Senate will reconvene for its first session of the new decade amid a pending impeachment trial and heightened tensions in the Middle East.

While the House of Representatives has yet to send the Articles of Impeachment over to the Senate, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) have disagreed how an impeachment trial will proceed.

McConnell, who previously said he is working directly with the White House in defense of Trump, has rebuffed Schumer's request for a witness list from the White House.

The Senate will start its new session just hours after Trump ordered an airstrike that killed Gen. Qassem Soleimani, one of the highest-ranking military members in Iran.
