Popeyes sells out of coveted chicken sandwich

Popeyes said on Tuesday it has sold out of its new chicken sandwich at all of its locations after lines formed across the country in hopes of eating the sandwich.

The demand was an incredible response to a tweet for the 20th-largest fast food chain in America, according to QSR .

Popeyes said that the chicken sandwich will be back for good "soon." The fast food chain said customers will be notified through its mobile app on when the sandwiches will return.

The Popeyes chicken sandwich launched two weeks ago, and for the first week, not many people noticed. But when Chick Fil A tweeted, "Bun + Chicken + Pickles = all the (love) for the original," the Great Chicken Sandwich War began.

In some locales, Popeyes opted not to sell chicken sandwiches as drive thru lines created a hazard for motorists. In other locations, people waited for over an hour, and in some cases, came up empty handed.

Dave Hill of Cleveland went to to eight Popeyes locations on Monday to find a sandwich. He too came up empty handed.

“At one store, a worker told me people have been there since 9:30 a.m.,” Hill told Scripps affiliate WEWS .
