DEL CITY, Okla. (AP) -- Authorities in suburban Oklahoma City say a suspected shoplifter has died following a shooting in which an officer and a security guard were injured.

The shooting occurred about 11 p.m. Saturday at a retail store in Del City, about 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) southeast of Oklahoma City.

Del City police Capt. Bradley Rule says a shoplifting suspect had been taken to the manager's office, where he allegedly produced a gun and shot a Del City police officer and a security guard. The police officer returned fire, striking the suspect.

Officials say the alleged shoplifter was pronounced dead at the scene. He hasn't been identified.

The officer and security guard were taken to an area hospital and are expected to recover. The officer was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
