How much is the college experience worth to you? Would you give up $5 million a year to swim with your friends and go to class with your buds?
With four gold medals and one silver, Katie Ledecky captured our hearts during the Rio 2016 Olympics. Her performance in and out of the pool has made her a household name. Now, the darling of the U.S. swim team has given us one more reason to dig her.
At 19, Ledecky could be commanding up to $5 million in endorsement deals a year, but she’s saying nah, I just want to go to college.
In an interview with ESPN Radio’s Mike and Mike, Ledecky explained her decision to go to Stanford University.
“I’ve always wanted to swim collegiately and have that experience. I think it is going to be a lot of fun to be on a team with some really great friends and great swimmers and also just go to class with them,” she said.
Katie Ledecky is one of the greatest swimmers in the world, and at 19 she has time on her side. She’ll no doubt wow us in another four years at the Tokyo Olympics with bigger and better deals waiting in the wings.
So, for now let’s cheers to Katie. Enjoy the college life!
