More than $2 billion was pumped into the economy on Cyber Monday 2014 — setting a new record.
Spending from desktop computers in the first 31 days of this November and December holiday season reached $26.7 billion by Dec. 2, a 16 percent increase over last year, according to a report from comScore, which measures digital analytics. Desktop spending grew 32 percent on Thanksgiving Day and 26 percent on Black Friday.
Cyber Monday, which this year fell on Dec. 1, ranks as the heaviest online spending day in history, comScore's report said.
Several stores are extending their holiday sales that began on or before (some well before) Black Friday. Sears still has its "Cyber Week" deals available on its website, as does Overstock.com and a slew of other retailers.
According to the National Retail Federation, there are key dates to remember as far as shipping. Dec. 15 is usually the busiest shipping day of the year for package delivery services such as FedEx and UPS.
The United States Postal Service typically sees its busiest days Dec. 17-18.
The deadline to mail a package first-class through the USPS and have it arrive by Christmas is Dec. 20. Standard mail should go out even sooner — by Dec. 15.
