A Florida police officer was dragged by a speeding car while responding to a possible overdose and the incident was all caught on the officer's body camera.

Thomas Cabrera, from Pembroke Pines, is now facing a charge of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

Officer Jon Cusack, is seen on the video approaching the vehicle in a parking lot to check on the driver and a passenger after police were called about a possible drug overdose. Shortly after Cusack approaches the vehicle, Cabrera wakes up and appears confused. He then puts the vehicle in drive and starts to speed off with Cusack clinging to the driver's side door. The car reached speeds of 60 mph, according to the police report.

The driver tried to run into trees and even a fire emergency vehicle as Cusack was hanging on to the side of the car. Cusack eventually let go of the car after holding on for about a half-a-mile and tumbled to the side of the road.

Cabrera then led police on a chase and reached speeds of 100 mph, even using heroin while driving, according to the police report. Officers with the Pembroke Pines Police Department pursued the suspect vehicle as it made its way on to I-75 northbound and then to eastbound I-595. Cabrera was eventually apprehended on I-595 after getting stuck in busy morning commute traffic.

The female passenger in the car during the incident has not been charged, police say.

Cusack is a 19-year-veteran of the Pembroke Pines Police Department. He suffered road rash over much of his body and the soles of his boots were completely burned off. He is expected to make a full recovery and spend a weekend with his family.
