Three people and two horses have sustained injuries after a van slammed into the back of an Amish buggy in Lawrence County, Tennessee.

The crash happened Wednesday morning about 85 miles south of Nashville in an area just south of the city of Lawrenceburg.

Officials with the Lawrenceburg Police Department said a van drove into the back of the buggy on on Highway 43 South at the Highway 64 Bypass - and area where the posted speed limit is 55 miles per hour. Investigators were working to determine the speed the van was traveling at when the crash happened.

A Critical Accident Response Team was brought in to reconstruct the scene and determine exactly what happened.

There were four males inside the buggy, three of whom were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Two horses pulling the buggy had minor injuries.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area while police worked at the scene.
