5-year-old victim of Sutherland Springs church shooting asking for Christmas cards

Posted

One of the youngest victims of November's mass shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas isn't asking for much this holiday season.

All he wants is Christmas cards — maybe with a $1 bill inside.

Ryland Ward was one of nearly 50 people shot by a gunman at the First Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 5. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that he was shot five times, and also lost his stepmother and two sisters in the massacre.

Ryland's family is asking people from around the country to send him Christmas cards this holiday season. They're also asking for $1 donations, which would go toward buying the young boy a go-kart to ride when his wounds heal.

Cards can be sent to: Ryland Ward, Box 174, Sutherland Springs, TX 78161.

One of Ryland's cousins also set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the boy's medical costs. The campaign has already earned more than $144,000 of its $200,000 goal.
