Muskogee VA to resume intermediate surgeries

Posted

MUSKOGEE - The Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System is pleased to announce that intermediate surgeries will resume immediately at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center (JCMVAMC) in Muskogee.

The hospital suspended intermediate surgeries in December 2015 in order to assess its processes and ensure veterans receive the highest quality care, according to a news release on Thursday.

JCMVAMC worked with the National Surgery Office and VISN 19 review teams to implement recommendations, which the hospital says includes creation of a preoperative surgical review and other review committees. The statement said policies on emergency operating procedures were also updated and that the hospital would conduct quarterly "code blue" exercises.

“I want to applaud our entire Surgery team for the work they have done to address the recommendations of the review teams,” said Mark E. Morgan, Medical Center Director. “With improved quality oversight programs in place, we will be able to resume intermediate level procedures in-house for our Veterans, which will improve Veteran access to surgical care. I also want to thank our community healthcare partners for bridging our gap in providing care and services to our Veterans during this time.”
