Mother deployed for nearly a year returns home, surprises kids at Oklahoma school

Posted

A mother deployed with the Arkansas Army National Guard for nearly a year surprised her kids at school Friday following her return.

Mellissa Mulligan left for duty on May 26, 2016. Mulligan had the chance to come home for several weeks and decided to surprise her kids Liberty Elementary in Sallisaw.

Mulligan also gave a flag to the school saying she appreciates the school and community watching over her children.

“The flag was given as a sign of appreciation for the school and community for watching over my children while I was deployed in support of the Mosul liberation. It was flown on a Blackhawk helicopter over Iraq on Sept. 12th 2016. I am proud of my community and I may have been the one deployed but I could not have done it without the support from home,” said Mulligan.
