Don Swope and Jerry McGehe enjoying a few cold beverages is not uncommon.

Therefore, Swope, who has been a fan of racing his entire life, thought it would be a creative idea to build a midget race car out of empty beer cans.

For the third year in a row, Swope and McGehe have created the most photographed and talked about car at the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals competition at the Spirit River Expo Center.

Both Swope and McGehe have put in a great deal of time creating the cars, but say drinking to empty the cans is worth the hassle.

“I’ve walked up when people were standing here and they said, ‘boy those guys had a lot of fun drinking that beer I bet.’ I said, yeah, we did,” Swope said.

Swope and McGehe will begin preparing to build a new midget car at the end of the month.
