Mayor Dewey Bartlett delivers his final State of the City Address at the Cox Business Center

Posted

The Cox Business Center was location of the 2016 State of the City Address where Dewey Bartlett delivered his final address as Tulsa's Mayor.

Bartlett, who has served as Tulsa's Mayor for the past seven years, says shortly after being elected his staff created a list of goals to accomplish. Now, nearing the end of his term  Bartlett and his team have completed all the intended goals since 2008.

“The seven years that I've been Mayor went just like that and it's because we were always doing several things in a positive way to accomplish things,” Bartlett said.

The main focus of Bartlett's speech was to reinforce the positive change he and his staff have helped bring to Tulsa and to maintain confidence in the transitioning administration.

“As my final term ends, I hand over to new leadership those successes and the great responsibilities that come with them, to carry on, to perverse and to make intelligent decisions for all of Tulsa,” Bartlett said.

As for Bartlett, he hopes to earn a new position in Washington to help improve the nation's infrastructure as the Secretary of Transportation. Bartlett says his time served as Tulsa's Mayor gives him enough experience to earn the cabinet position.

“I strongly believe that having the Mayor's experience that I've had would continue the experience that the current Secretary of Transportation, who is also a former Mayor, has provided. Mayors are usually the recipients of considerable amount of the decision making that the Department of Transportation makes - I think the country would be well served by my being the new Secretary Transportation of the United States,” Bartlett said.
